Sustainable Agriculture in the California Delta
The Delta is a living system built on deep peat layers of plants laid down for 7,000 years. We are learning to restore that system by grazing special small grass eating pigs and other symbiotic livestock.
We own a 15 acre farm on the delta loop near Isleton, CA and a 75 acre island 4 miles away by water in Contra Costa county. We are also grazing the abutting farm on the loop.
It is working amazingly well so far and appears to be a huge improvement on "conventional" methods. Our goal is a farm without chores, a giant green solar panel that makes meat, health and happiness. Where the mere presence of
humans, their RVs, boats and projects are a shelter and catalyst for the livestock and make the living system even more productive. Need the grass cut or weeds removed? Let the animals in, they love doing the work. And it's nonstop entertainment for visitors, they love interacting with the animals.
